Shane and I recently sat down to discuss the games we've enjoyed so far in 2014. While the podcast version of that is forthcoming, this piece dives in a little more into what some of my favorites have been.
My favorite title this year has to be Titanfall.
I know a lot of the hype of this game has died down since its release, but I'm still enjoying it. Because I wasn't as rabid as some people when Titanfall was released, and have only played it sporadically, it still feels fresh to me. Respawn has also done a good job of providing periodic updates which help keep the game feeling fresh, such as the newly implemented "Marketplace" system with credits earned in-game. There doesn't appear to be any microtransactions tied to that system (that I've found) which is also a welcome feature. Lastly, I'm interested in checking out the DLC maps, so I may even poor some more money into this game to extend its life.
Shane and I also discussed the upcoming titles this year that we're excited to play. At the top of my list are, Borderlands - The Pre Sequel and Forza Horizon 2. With Borderlands, I'm primarily excited to jump back into the land of Pandora and rummage through more vaults. Considering all of the excitement surrounding the Destiny beta recently, my itch for that style of loot based gameplay is coming on strong. Digging into the character's back stories will also be a great element to further flesh-out the Borderlands lore.
The allure of Forza Horizon 2 is fairly similar to Borderlands. I just want more of what their predecessors offered, and these are great opportunities to satisfy that. My time spent with the original Forza Horizon game was a blast. The open world environment led to some really cool racing and event types that'd be near impossible on a track. One of the factors driving me to salivate over this game is the fact that I skipped out on Forza Horizon 5. I still don't have an Xbox One, so my chances to play have been slim to none.
Our podcast discussing all of this, Episode 12, should be available soon. Until then, what have been your favorite items of 2014, and what other 2014 releases are you looking forward to?
